LeadingRE Conference

by Michelle Sandlin on March 30, 2009

Wow! What a conference! My head is still spinning with all of the great new information and ideas that I have brought back home with me, not to mention all of the great new friends. What a great group of people! It was a blast meeting you all!

Here are a few of the central themes that really spoke to me at this year’s Conference:

  • The Rebranding of the Relocation Department
  • The Importance of Social Media/Social Networking
  • Focusing on Customers
  • The Future of Houston Real Estate Brokerages
  • The Importance of Training
  • The Power of Blogging
  • The Art of Recruiting, Re-recruiting & De-Cruiting
  • The Impending Death of Print Advertising
  • The Impact of Technology
  • Survival of the Fittest
  • Boundaries exist in your minds

The Rebranding of the Relocation Department
This is a great place to start. In speaking with several of my counterparts over the past several days, it sounds as if everyone is going to be campaigning for a departmental name change. This actually makes perfect sense, as our list of services has expanded much more than relocation. For instance, our departments are also responsible for broker-to-broker referrals, company-wide business development, property management, REOs, Internet Lead Management, etc. And I fully expect our list to continue to evolve from there. The words “Relocation Department” no longer accurately describes what we do.

So, the question is really not whether to change the name of the department, but rather what should we be changing the name to. Here are a few ideas that I am tossing around:

  1. International Real Estate Division
  2. Global Real Estate Division
  3. Global Services Division
  4. Corporate Services Division
  5. International Corporate Services Division

And the list goes on…

Please feel free to share your suggestions or let me know what you have decided to rename your “Relocation Department.” Then, once we rename, we will need to rethink the title “Relocation Director.”
