HBJ Interviews John A. Daugherty, Jr.

by Michelle Sandlin on April 21, 2009

John A. Daugherty, Jr. shares his insight into the Houston real estate market in a recent interview featured in the Houston Business Journal. Since founding John Daugherty, Realtors in 1967, John has seen many changes and advancements in the industry, as well as the effects that the economy can have on the local market. Fortunately, at present, the Houston real estate market has been some what buffered from the economic woes affecting other parts of the country.

Here is an excerpt from the interview:

Q Do you agree that our real estate market is buffered from the economic troubles facing the rest of the country?

A The Houston market is somewhat insulated from the rest of the country, as is most of Texas. We did not have the 10, 20 and 30 percent appreciation in the housing market on an annual basis in recent years and with very few exceptions, we have had a steady 4-plus percent increase in the housing market overall.
