Houston Real Estate Market on the Upswing!

by Michelle Sandlin on April 23, 2009

Almost everywhere you look and in nearly everything you read, there seem to be reports and signs of at least some small economic improvements. Fortunately Houston real estate has not suffered from the same devastating real estate markets and downturns experienced elsewhere, but we have still had our share of woes. Prices are certainly down from this time last year, and listings are taking a little longer to sell, but in February and March, and now April, we are starting to see a bounce back in the Houston real estate market.

According to the MLS Report for March 2009 that was put out by the Houston Association of Realtors, declines in sales and in the pricing of homes in Houston let up a bit in March. Overall, the property sales volume was up 26.1% and sales of single-family homes were up 27.8% from February to March. Furthermore, the median price for a single-family home saw its highest level for the year so far, at $145,000.
