Texas Showing Steady Immigration Despite Recession

by Michelle Sandlin on April 7, 2009

A great article was posted this week by the Houston Business Journal, which substantiates what we have been saying all along and know to be true: Texas is showing a steady immigration despite the recession.

Texas and Houston in particular, continues to be a strongly favored destination both for employers who are relocating their employees, as well as for individuals eager to make the move in search of better job opportunities. From a relocation standpoint, Houston has not seen a significant slowdown in terms of the relocations into the city. In fact we are seeing the opposite, as well as experiencing a return of people who relocated to other parts of the country and world as recently as the past year or two.

We continue to see large numbers of corporate relocations to Houston through the oil industry, technology firms, the university systems, health care and many more.

Houston is an attractive option for relocating employees and individuals for a number of reasons. First, and perhaps the most obvious reason, is that Houston has such a low cost of living index compared to other cities throughout the U.S. and around the world. Then add in the fact that the Houston real estate prices are considerably more affordable than in other markets. This helps people who may be selling a home in a more depressed market, since they will potentially be able to get more bang for their real estate buck when purchasing in Houston. Combine that with increased job opportunities, no state income tax, decent weather year round, all the amenities you could ever ask for in a city, and Houston certainly looks like THE place to be.
